Remember to register early for classes to avoid them being canceled!

 

We have worked at continuing to provide a wide variety of programs for everyone to enjoy. Help us keep these programs running without cancellation by pre-registering. We have given specific registration deadlines for nearly every program so if you want to join one, make sure you do so before the deadline........Sometimes waiting too long will cause some programs to be canceled.

 

2010 RECREATION MASTER PLAN

 Recreation Highlights by Erin Reavis

All children are invited to join Buena Vista Children’s Chorus. Instructor Judy Phelps teaches chorus to boys and girls ages 4 to 12 at Avery-Parsons Elementary School.  Session 1 runs September 13 through November 1 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., with a Patriotic concert set for November 7. 

Tae-kwon-do Mixed Class and Tiny Tigers teach the basics of Tae-kwon-do, including discipline, focus and self defense.  These classes are for students ages 8 to adult for the Mixed Class and ages 5 to 7 for Tiny Tigers.  All classes are held Monday’s at the Buena Vista community center and students pay monthly depending on their belt level. 

Fall Basket Art Class with instructor Denise Mullen is for children ages 5 to 14.  Participants make a beautiful, unique basket centerpiece of their own.  The class is Saturday, September 18 from 2 to 3:30 at the Buena Vista community center.  The cost is just $6 and the registration deadline is September 17.

Yoga classes are back starting September 21.  Three classes are offered:  Yoga Basics meets Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 6 p.m., Vinyasa Flow meets Tuesday and Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., and Restorative Gentle meets Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.  All classes are at the Buena Vista community center.  Each class is $50 and ends approximately November 18. 

Women’s Weight Lifting with Lynn Nicks is a great way to get in shape and tone your muscles.  Weight lifting meets at the Dorthea Wille P.E. Complex Monday through Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  The fee is just $1 per night and no pre-registration is required. 

Aerobics/Tae Bo Class can get anyone into shape.  Join Lynn Nicks Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8 to 9 a.m. at the American Legion Hall.  This exercise class helps tone, tighten, stretch and even lose weight.  The cost is just $1.50 per class, pay at the door.

Please remember Line Dancing Class now meets from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday evenings and the fee is $4 per person.

Special Event Permits


On April 13, 2010 the Board of Trustees passed Ordinance 3, Series 2010  "An ordinance of the Board of Trustees for the Town of Buena Vista, Colorado, repealing and reenacting Article VI of Chapter 11 and enacting a new Article VII of Chapter 11 of the Buena Vista Municipal Code regarding the use of public places and special events in public places." The ordinance will be enforced starting June 1, 2010. This ordinance, in part, requires a permit for any event held on public property with 200 or more participants.   


The fee for this permit is $50. This fee attempts to off set some of the cost of staff review of th event application to ensure public safety and health measures are being met. If you also need to reserve a park or close a street, fees for these items will be in addition to the $50, Special Event Permit fee. The fees for the park and street closure go towards maintenance of the parks and the cost of staff time for setting up the street barricades. To maximize your time, you will only need to fill out but one for for all these activities.
