Buena Vista, Colorado – The History Colorado State Historical Fund (SHF) recently announced that the Town of Buena Vista has received a grant of $18,000 to complete intensive architectural and cultural surveys of up to 36 historic residences and one commercial property situated within Buena Vista’s historic core. This survey will build upon recently conducted intensive surveys of commercial properties on Buena Vista’s Main Street, thereby increasing local knowledge of the town’s historic development and laying the groundwork for education, celebration, and preservation of BV’s historic core.
Historical surveys will not only educate homeowners about the history of their homes, but will also empower them to pursue state and national tax credits and grant funds to support preservation and restoration efforts.
The second of the two historic preservation grants awarded to the Town comes from the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board (CHRAB). The Board has awarded Buena Vista a $5,000 grant to scan, identify, and archive BV Heritage’s extensive collection of historical photos and documents.
The Town of Buena Vista would like to recognize the efforts of our Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) in organizing and submitting the applications that resulted in these two grant awards being made available to our community. Without their hard work, these important initiatives could not have been undertaken. Both projects are slated to begin in 2019 and be completed in 2020.
