Update - STAGE II Fire Restrictions

June 14, 2018

Stage II Fire Restrictions

Effective on Thursday, June 14, 2018 the Town of Buena Vista joined multiple agencies within Chaffee County and the United States Forest Service San Isabel National Forest San Carlos and Salida Ranger Districts, and moved to Stage ll Fire Restrictions. This action is taken due to the very dry conditions, lack of moisture, and the long term forecast of little or no improvement of weather conditions in the immediate future.

Stage II Fire Restrictions prohibits the building, maintaining or attending any open fire within Town limits. This includes the use of any type of charcoal fire or grill.

In addition, the following activities are prohibited:

  • Using explosive material such as fireworks, blasting caps or any incendiary device that may result in ignition of flammable materials.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building or in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
  • Welding or operating an acetylene or similar torch, except in an area 20 feet in diameter cleared of flammable materials.
  • Using any internal combustion engines and chainsaws, except under certain limited conditions specified.

The only exceptions to Stage II Fire Restrictions are the use of:

  • LP gas or liquid fueled stoves that allow the operator to turn off or on the appliance.
  • Fireplaces within enclosed buildings equipped with fire screens on the flue.

Residents, business owners, and visitors  are being asked to be aware of the restrictions currently in place both in the Town and the surrounding areas, and before taking any action that could place them and others in danger of fire, to check fire restrictions on a daily basis.
